FAQs

If I purchase an ebook, how do I read it? Will it be difficult to download the book to my e-reader?

The process is really straightforward - don't worry! When you buy an ebook, you'll get an email from Book Funnel sent directly to the email address you used to make your purchase.

The email will contain a link to the book's page, which will look like this:

From there, click "GET MY BOOK" and follow the step-by-step instructions to download the book in whichever format you like, or send the ebook directly to your e-reader.

Can't find the email? If you have multiple email addresses, don't forget to check you're logged into the right account (using the email address you entered at checkout), and then double-check to see if the email landed in the spam folder.

Having trouble downloading the file? Book Funnel's tech team will be happy to help you out. Just email them or click on the "Need help?" link in the top-right corner of the book's page and a human (not a robot!) will give you a hand.

What about audiobooks?

Audiobooks are also delivered using Book Funnel, and you can choose whether to download an MP3 or listen in the Book Funnel app. The app is available to download for free on most devices.

If you're wondering why some of my audiobooks are available on the store and others aren't, I can only sell audiobooks for which I own the rights. The Blair Wilkes Mysteries and Winter Witches of Holiday Haven audiobooks are both produced by audiobook publishers and I can't sell those independently, but all my narrator-produced audiobooks are on the store.

None of my audiobooks are AI-narrated. They're all narrated by humans who were compensated for their time and effort.

Where do I find all my purchased ebooks/audiobooks?

You can access all your purchased content in your library ahttps://My.BookFunnel.com. Again, you can log in with the email address you used to make your purchase.

How are print books delivered? Why is postage so expensive?

Print books are delivered through a service called BookVault and are shipped directly to you. Print time is usually 72 working hours and shipping can take up to a week or two depending on where you live. BookVault has printers in the US, UK, Canada, and Australia, but some products are only available to ship from the UK.

You will receive an email from the printer with a tracking link as soon as the order has been dispatched.

Note: print books from my store are unsigned, as BookVault is a print-on-demand service, but I do have signed bookplate editions of several of my fantasy titles listed on the Broken Binding online indie bookstore.

How do preorders work?

You'll be charged for preordering as soon as you make your purchase, and the book will be delivered on the official launch date (which will be on the product page).

Wait... there are two of you? Who is Elle/Emma?

There's just one of me, though I often wish for a clone some days! I publish my fantasy books under Emma L. Adams and my paranormal mysteries as Elle Adams. It's a way to keep things neater, and retailers such as Amazon like authors to stay in clearly defined boxes so that they can more easily recommend books to readers of a particular genre. It was getting slightly unwieldy for me to manage two websites, though, so when I set up my direct store, I decided to bring both names under the same banner. I've always been open about writing as two people, so this ought to be simpler for everyone!

Do you write children's books? What age are your books suitable for?

I don't currently have any books for children published, but my Elle Adams books are are suitable for all ages despite having adult characters. My Emma L. Adams novels are written for adults and while there's nothing to stop younger readers from picking up the books, they do contain violence and more "adult" language. If you're looking for family-friendly content, I recommend picking up one of Elle's books instead.

Why should I buy direct?

Firstly, if you buy an ebook or audiobook from my store, it's yours to keep. All my digital books are free of DRM encryption and aren't tied to a retailer account. You can download them to as many devices as you like and even share with friends and family. I want my books to be accessible to everyone!

Buying direct benefits the author, too. If you purchase anything from my store, I'll get paid right away, and I'll get to keep 95% of the list price (instead of 35-70%, which is standard for retailers). As a bonus, buying directly from the author decreases our dependence on the big retail stores, and we can offer deeper discounts because there isn't a middleman taking a cut.

Can I buy your books from other retailers?

Of course! My Emma L. Adams ebooks and audiobooks are available on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Kobo, Google Play, Apple, and more. They can also be borrowed through libraries. Paperbacks are available on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Waterstones, and other online retailers.

My Elle Adams ebooks are currently exclusive to Amazon, but the paperbacks are widely available and the audiobooks are also offered everywhere I can sell them.

What about subscriptions, like Kindle Unlimited?

As of right now, my Elle Adams ebooks can all be borrowed from Kindle Unlimited. Amazon doesn't allow ebooks enrolled in KU to be sold elsewhere, so I had to remove my Emma L. Adams ebooks in order to sell them here on the website.

Those ebooks can still be read through other subscriptions like KoboPlus and Everand, which are (in my opinion) better value for money because they include audiobooks, too.

If you're on a budget, you can also borrow my Emma L Adams ebooks from libraries via apps like Libby, Overdrive, or Hoopla. If you can't find my books listed, it's usually easy to ask your local library to order copies - which also means other readers will be able to borrow them, too!
